The Bess Service wants this website to be as clear, simple and easy to use as possible. We know people use websites in different ways, and we’ll do our best to make the site accessible and usable for as many people as possible.
Our website is: www.thebessservice.co.uk
You can contact us at: thebessservice@gmail.com
We aim to make the website:
Clear and easy to read.
Easy to navigate.
Usable on phones, tablets and computers.
Written in plain English where possible.
Structured with clear headings.
Designed with readable text and good contrast.
Accessible to people using assistive technology where possible.
We’ll also try to make downloadable documents, forms and linked information as accessible as we reasonably can.
We aim to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, known as WCAG, where practical for a small service website. WCAG gives recommendations for making websites more accessible to people with different access needs, including visual, hearing, mobility and cognitive needs.
Our aim is to work towards WCAG 2.2 level AA where possible.
We want you to be able to:
Read the website text clearly.
Navigate the website in a logical order.
Use the website on a phone, tablet or computer.
Zoom in without the text becoming difficult to read.
Understand the main information without needing technical knowledge.
Contact us if you need help, a different format, or support using the site.
This is a small business website and we’re still building and improving it. Some areas may not be perfect yet.
Possible limits may include:
Some linked documents may need further accessibility checking.
Some third-party tools, such as Google Forms, Google Maps, Google Analytics, booking tools or embedded content, may have their own accessibility settings or limitations.
Some images or icons may need improved alternative text as the site develops.
Some pages may need further checking for colour contrast, keyboard navigation or screen reader use.
We’ll review these areas and improve them where we reasonably can.
We may use a mix of simple checks and tools, including:
The W3C/WAI Easy Checks guidance.
Automated accessibility checking tools.
Manual checks, such as testing headings, links, image descriptions, zoom, mobile view and keyboard navigation.
Feedback from people using the website.
Automated tools can help find some problems, but they don’t catch everything. We’ll use them as a helpful starting point rather than a full guarantee.
If you need information from this website in another format, please contact us.
For example, you can ask for:
A clearer written explanation.
A larger text version.
Information by email.
A phone or WhatsApp conversation.
A document in a different format where possible.
We’ll do our best to help.
If you find something on the website difficult to use, please let us know.
You can contact us at:
It would be helpful if you can tell us:
Which page or document you were using.
What the problem was.
What device or browser you were using, if you know.
What would make it easier for you.
We’ll review the issue and try to make reasonable improvements.
We’ll continue to review the website as The Bess Service develops, especially when we add new pages, documents, forms or services.
